The Martian Movie Trailer

20th Century Fox have released the first official trailer for Ridley Scott’s adaptation of the 2011 Andy Weir novel The Martian.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

The movie stars Matt Damon as astronaut Mark Watney, Kate Mara, Jessica ChastainKristen Wiig and is set to hit cinemas in November 2015.

With all the recent hype about sending a manned mission to our nearest neighbour Mars, this movie reminds us of the dangers of attempting such a feat but uses that to demonstrate the overwhelming force of humanity when it comes up against a seemingly impossible obstacle. Never mind that a rescue mission would cost billions, take four years, and Mark Watney would probably die by the time it got there, or that the original mission crew are going to go against orders and try to perform an almost suicidal rescue mission themselves. This movie is set to ask you – what would you do, how far would you go to try and rescue someone from a horrible death.

With such great source material in Andy Weir’s novel, the talent and experience of Ridley Scott, the trailer looks great and the movie will surely have us stuck in our seats from go to woe and I’m really looking forward to it.
